Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a By Kids, For Kids Writing Intern?
- Any teen in 9th through 12th grade who'd like
to attend our after school program once a week and help write articles
for our science and environmental newsletters for younger children.
- Do I get paid?
- No, but you do receive subway tokens or bus change and snacks as well
as homework help, internet access, mentorship from college students,
and many opportunities to make a difference in your community!
- Why do other teens join?
- Greentimes is a fun program for many teenagers. You make new friends,
learn about topics that you are interested in, and have an amazing opportunity
to practice writing skills, have one-on-one mentorship from young adults,
and take on leadership roles among your peers. The workshops we run
and the experiences you have here are wonderful preparation for college,
jobs and more.
- How often do I have to attend?
- We ask our teen participants to attend once a week on Wednesday, Thursday
or Friday.
- What happens after school?
- After school we talk about current science and environmental topics,
research and write for the Greentimes and Greentimes JR
newsletters, go on field trips, invite speakers to come talk to small
groups, and do fun activities and experiments with college-aged mentors
and our staff.
- How do I sign up? What if I have more questions?
- Just email greentimes@urbaneco.org or contact us
by phone or mail. We'll answer your
questions, give you directions to get here, and fill you in on all the
details.
