Volunteers

Want to mentor high school students after school?
Want to learn how a non-profit functions?
Want to be a part of the greater-Boston community?
Then think about being a Greentimes volunteer!

The Greentimes after school program (operational on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during the school year) always welcomes college students and adult volunteers. We have two important roles that volunteers can fill. The first is a hands-on role mentoring our high school participants. The second is a more flexible role of helping with projects relating to fundraising or newsletter production. If you sign up for the second option, we'll contact you when we have projects to work on and you can let us know if you are available to help out.

If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering, please e-mail Sarah or call 617.552.8504. We now have a volunteer coordinator for the Urban Ecology Institute who would love to give you more information as well, e-mail volunteer@urbaneco.org. Below you can find some answers to frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can volunteer?
Anyone!

What do volunteers do?
Most volunteers mentor our teen writers after school. But there are also behind the scenes jobs that volunteers can help with including fundraising, editing, and data entry.

What does mentoring entail?
Mentoring teens after school does not require training or specific skills. College students and adults can mentor high school students by being there to support their work on the By Kids For Kids newsletters, act as positive, productive role models in social and work situations after school, and help provide one-on-one attention to students working on projects with our program.

Do I have to stick to a schedule?
We prefer to work with volunteers who can stick to a regular schedule, but there is no requirement of how frequently you volunteer. You could come every week, once a month, or just for specific projects.
